Infrastructure is more than keeping the lights on.
My background in support, infrastructure and technical delivery shapes how I work. I start with the service people rely on, understand its dependencies and carry the change through to a handover the support team can use.

01 · Understand
Start with what needs to work.
I clarify the service outcome, who depends on it and what could affect delivery. I use operational conversations, site information and existing records to turn a request into requirements the people delivering it can use.
In practice
For a terminal expansion, I authored the infrastructure requirements, reconciled endpoint locations with connectivity and checked capacity before delivery.

Design for the service that follows.
I weigh workload, compatibility, licensing, recovery and support alongside the equipment. Suppliers add specialist design input; I test it against the environment, budget and what the team will need to operate.
In practice
For a virtual infrastructure refresh, I specified compute, memory, storage and resilient connectivity with recovery failover in mind, then worked with the supplier to resolve compatibility and capacity decisions.

Stay with the change into service.
I remain involved through preparation, installation, configuration, migration and testing. I coordinate interruptions with affected teams and check the service itself before calling the work complete.
In practice
During a network refresh, suppliers configured the central platform; I mapped devices by VLAN, onboarded replacement switches, coordinated cutovers and tested services using the new network.

Leave a service people can support.
I document configuration and dependencies, share troubleshooting steps and explain the reasoning behind the change. During incidents, I distinguish what has recovered from what still needs checking.
In practice
I authored a terminal handover with system records and support guidance, then trained colleagues to investigate faults and follow the documented change process.
